Busy Blogger

Oh my, its been a month since I have last blogged! What kind of blogger am I? A busy one, I guess. I have been super busy the past month since it is now summer time, facepainting has been my main gig lately and getting the studio ready. I have lots of updates to share with you!

We ended our indiegogo project only raising roughly $300 which went towards getting paint and supplies to start the transformation. Every little bit helps and we have been working hard with what we got.

So, its still a working progress as you can see and so far we have had a lot of fun with this. I especially love this faux brick wall, even though it was very tedious and a pain in the butt to tape off and detail, but I think it is so bold and edgy and definitely our style! As time goes on, we will be adding more of the stuff that we want in there, but for now, this will get us going.

We are still on the hunt for some salon sinks and a few other things and then we can do a soft opening. In a few weeks, we hope to do a grand opening and everyone can come out!

We are looking for a few other stylists as well, so if you’re reading this and you’re interested, don’t be afraid to contact me!

On another note, here are some other things that I have been up to.

I did this fun color on one of my new clients, who is a fabulous MUA.

I also received 2 custom orders from my Etsy Shop, which was a nice surprise and had a few other custom orders as well that were local.

For this past Friday the 13th and because it was a full moon, I gave my brother, his girlfriend and myself matching tattoos. This was really fun to do. I picked out the glyph symbol for a full moon, and below it, the mayan symbol for 13.

I just wanted to give a quick lil update on what I have been up to. Once our shop is open, I will be back into a schedule of posting and will of course have more videos up as well.

Ju Ju Jubilee

This past weekend, I was a vendor at my first festival event at the Chesapeake Jubilee! I was so nervous and excited at the same time because although I know I do decent work, no one besides my friends and family have seen my hand painted glasses and I just didn’t know if other people would like it. I was surprised at the outcome and I am happy the weather cleared up for people to come out.

My Mom and I got everything together that we thought we would need, from display items, tablecloth, business cards, sign and a bunch of stuff. It felt like one of those moments, a moment I will never forget and I will always look back on and cherish. Last year, I had helped out a tattoo shop at the same jubilee, and I told myself a year ago that I would have my own table and I would sell my artwork. I had no idea then, that I would be painting on glassware. A happy accident you could say. I rather enjoy it.

I created so many cool designs that I think are more my style than just the swirly design.

I was surprised at the response I received to my glasses and it really humbled me to hear compliments on my work. The work that I have stayed up for countless hours burning the midnight oil, or rather burning my candles, to create these unique pieces for others to enjoy. I needed that boost. After going through so much this past month of personal issues, this event confirmed that I am on the right path when it comes to my artwork and my career. And I couldn’t be happier at this very moment.

I just wanted to share a few photos from the festival and I am hoping to do at least one festival or event once a month and of course I will continue to sell my artwork on my etsy shop! (you can check it out at the top of my page under the etsy tab! )

Banners, Cards and Stamps

It’s Tuesday, and we’re already in the month of May! Where is the time going? My time has been spent getting things ready for the Chesapeake Jubilee, where I will have a table set up selling hand painted glassware and other gifts. I spent last night designing my banner, my business cards and even designed a cute lil stamp I can use for my product labels!

In case you are wondering what program I use to edit, I use Corel Paint Shop Pro. It is a user friendly program similar to other photo editing programs.

I ordered my banner and cards from VistaPrint, and they actually have 40% off right now on their whole website, so if you are needing more business stuff, go over there right now!

I have listed 3 new items on my Etsy Shop. I have been practicing what is called one-stroke painting with a rose design. I decided to do three roses designs on some stemless wine glasses and I think they came out pretty good. I listed it on Etsy and will also have these at the jubilee at my table.

I really need to build a light box so I can take better pictures, but hey, I am getting there!

In other news, I have been growing my hair out, and I was craving an edgy haircut, so I had my friend, Mary cut my hair for me. Don’t mind the color right now, my hair is in transition to a brighter color. I’m in the lightening stage.

I wanted short disconnected layers that framed my face and the side of my head. I am going back and forth from what colors, either bright red again or deep red, or even mermaid hair with teal and purple since I have done a few of those already hahaha. We shall see!

I also managed to draw up a few designs for a client. Check these out!

22 Days Left!

Last week, we launched our IndieGogo Project and so far have raised $235. We have been pushing it across all social media and to all our friends and family. I appreciate everyone that has donated, and even if we do not meet our goal, the money will still be put away until we reach our goal! I wanted to share our inspiration for our studio. We want to create a very artsy, laid back studio where it looks and feels like a barbershop/tattoo studio but it is for us girls, where we do hair, nails and body paint! These images were found on pinterest and serve as our inspiration for our studio! This will give you an idea of what we are trying to do.

So there is a glimpse of what we would like to do in the Hampton Roads Area.

April Showers

Hello my beautiful readers! It’s April, can you believe it? March has gone by so fast and it seemed like everything picked up so fast that I am still catching my breath. I have been doing so much in between drawing, painting, face and body painting and now in the works of opening up a studio, I haven’t had much time to blog. Yesterday I took a day to myself and did nothing but watch redbox movings and lay in bed. Hey, we all need days like that don’t we?

I wanted to share with you some of the things I have been up to.

A couple weeks ago, I took my daughter and brother to go see our brother perform with his band Full Fledge at the Norva here in Norfolk. Can you believe how bog she is getting? I cant believe I get to be her mom. How lucky am I? It was her first concert and she had so much fun because she looks up to her big uncle.

I am so proud of my lil brother and his band to play at The Norva. I know they are gonna do big things!

I also got a chance to facepaint for a SYSCO Event at the Virginia Beach Convention Center for their spring product review. Since my mom is a culinary student, she was also at the event so it was pretty cool to see her there!

I also got to see my friend Mandy who actually I used to work with at Xotic Eyes and she put in the good word for me to become a facepainter with Magical Solutions Inc, which is who I get some of these jobs through. She is a silk aerialist, hoop dancer and flame performer. Oh and did I mention she also does suspensions. I always love seeing her and cant wait to work with her during the summer.

One of the photographers that was there for my brother’s band at the Norva asked me to be the MUA for a last minute photoshoot and of course I’m down to work, especially with friends!

This was a lot of fun to do. I haven’t done beauty photoshoots in a while so it was nice to switch it up from all the other things I am doing. You can check out the photog, Kevin Watkins for his work and contact info! He is very fun and professional to work with, so if you are in the area looking for a photog, I def recommend him!

This past Sunday was a very busy day! And it prolly deserves a full post by itself, but here is a sneak peek which if you follow my Instagram (sweetsurrenderart)  you may have already seen a few images. I will do a proper post on it tomorrow.
