Books and Blogs

One of my favorite places to go to relax, chill, clear my mind and to get some inspiration is the library. I love going there and getting lost among the books. You know the Disney Movie "Beauty and The Beast"? I am like Belle, who loves to read and read and read. I would die to have the library that is in that movie (even though it isnt even real) hahaha or I'll take any of these cool libraries I found courtesy of Google Image Search!

I went to the library because I wanted some reference art books to practice drawing some tattoos. While I was there, I searched for blogging and graphic design books. I found some awesome books. I want to share these with you.

I have been blogging for about 2 years and I really enjoy it. I love reading other people's blogs and meeting friends online who share similair interests as me. I really want to make my blog more than what it is and take it to the next level, especially since I am a freelance makeup artist and hairstylist. I do want to have my own business one day doing all the things I love under one roof, and blogging has def given me confidence that I can do all these things and that people would be into that sort of thing.

Why not make money off of something you love doing? Thats how I feel about my art and my work and now my blog. If youre on that path too, def check out these books! Good Luck!

In case your'e tight on money, such as myself, even if you don't have money to buy all these resourceful books at Barnes and Nobles, dont forget the library has books you can borrow. Thats why I love it there. I also check out dvds there. In fact, I've been watching movies from there the past few days.

Whats your favorite place to go to relax or get inspiration? The library, the mall, the park, a museum?

books and blogs,

Nerd for Books

I recently got a gift card to my favorite store Barnes and Nobles Book Store. Although this was a gift for me, I always include my kiddos and get them goodies too! At first, when I told the kids we were going to the bookstore, they hesitated not wanting to go since there were no TOYS. But once I told them there was a Starbucks in it, they got sooo happy because they love their hot chocolates. hahahahahah   I love bookstores and I want my children to love reading too and going to bookstores as much as I do.

Once we got in the store, they immediatly went to the kids section and Matthias made a straight line to the comics section and starts pulling down books and looking through them. Arabella could only think about hot chocolate. hahaha until she came across a section of girl diary's ( the kind with a lock on it) and that caught her attention.  I was the same way at her age. hahah funny how that happens

I actually picked up a book next to her diary that had drawing styles for fashion design on sale for $6- I couldnt help myself, I had to grab it! I wish this book was out when I was younger! I love how they break down how to draw faces and clothing. I like the faces because I could use them as facesheets when I design makeup looks. The croakies ( the trace drawings of people) are really good too!

After they picked out $10 worth for each of them, I went and grabbed two of my favorite tattoo magazines, Bound By Ink and Rebel Ink.

I grabbed my usual Cinnamon Dulce Latte, the kiddos two hot chocolates and a rice krispies treat that we all shared.

see me eyeballing that COLOR NOOK?? I want to get one soooo bad!

Arabella feels so grown up and likes to pretend she is drinking Coffee. hahahaha

I hope you enjoyed our lil trip to Barnes and Nobles with us! Do you like to go to Barnes and Nobles? Whats your favorite part of going there? I like to get coffee and browse magazines and books for inspiration!

See you again soon!

Surrender to Your Inner Artist

Tattoo Book

With Borders going out of business, Jermie, Nique and I headed there a few weeks ago to grab some book marked down 40-60% off. I mainly wanted to get some tattoo books, not just magazines, but an actual technique book. I found only One book, actually Jermie found it for me. Its called "Advanced Tattoo Art How-to Secrets from the Masters by Doug Mitchell. Its taken me a lil bit to read through it, I only have time to read it on my lunch breaks at school, but I gotta say, I really enjoyed it. It doesnt give everything you need to know to tattoo, but it does give some good tips on the type of needles an artists uses, outlining and shading.

I finally finished reading it from front to back and I just wanted to share a good book for anyone interested in it.

This picture above was the last tattoo of the book and was prolly my favorite one because it resembles my style of drawing. Someone asked me what my style is yet, and I am not sure. I wanna say I am more of a classic style, but not sure because I like all styles. I guess with each drawing I do, I will discover my style.

I hope you enjoyed this post! I am off to go put some stuff in my storage unit and then get to drawing that memorial piece.
