Layla Glam Squad Grand Opening

Last night was the Grand Opening Party for Layla Glam Squad! We all got ready, got our models ready with some crazy avant garde hair and makeup and some body paint of course! We had a lot of amazing people help participate in our event with a caterer and a few local vendors specializing in hair, jewelry, accessories and candied apples! We got all dolled up and was ready to mix and mingle and introduce ourselves as the new salon in town!

To my left, is Keren who is also a makeup artist with Layla Glam and we are with our fabulous models who let us have free reign over their look for tonight with makeup, hair and body paint.

These custom snapbacks and accessories were made by Mirna Calero representing Jacqueline De Nadie.

I painted some fun and girly designs on myself and our models for the night and we all had a great time. I even took our first client before we opened up! So things are off to a great start! I am excited for the future and what is to come!

Geeky Art and School Supplies

I know, I am a super geek. I just cant help it. I am a nerd for school supplies. It is a secret of mine. Well, not so secret anymore. I loved going to college or any school just so I had an excuse to buy new clothes and new school supplies. haha I stopped into Office Depot yesterday to buy some postal supplies to ship off a tattoo drawing, and I was pleasantly surprised that the school supplies were already out! Which got me thinking about all the cool and funky school and office supplies that are out there in the vast world.

Then, I got to thinking. My most favorite time I went to a college, was when I attended the Art Institute in Colorado. I was so geeked out on all the art supplies I had received. The same goes for Westwood College and TCC. I had changed my major a few times and each major required different supplies. I have switched around from fashion design, merchandising, interior design back to fashion then graphic design. All the awesome colored pencils, markers, drafting supplies, cameras and editing programs.

Most of these supplies I have piles of, that I need to really organize. If I took a photo of my art space, you would do a hard eye rolling and get an instant migraine. Hubby is planning on putting some shelves up and I couldn’t be anymore excited.

Sugar Skull Studio

I wanted to do a post on something I stumbled across on Instagram. I don’t remember how I found them, but you know how it is.

Let me introduce Sugar Skull Studio, a Vancouver based hair salon and Massage studio that is a mix of old school and eclectic style and I am totally inspired by! I love the mix of a studio/hair salon. This place also has a tattoo shop feel with bold artwork on the walls and an urban atmosphere. Make sure you follow them on Instagram under Sugar_Skull_Studio

I hope to open my own studio where I can offer many services with hair, makeup, nails but so much more, I want to create a fun, cool atmosphere. I also want to tattoo there once I become licensed. I could go on and on about my plans for my studio, but I wanted to share some inspiration with you guys on some cool places. Check them out!

 

 

 

 

 

 

I hope this inspired you as much as it has for me. Right now, I am juggling a bunch of things right now, from cleaning the house, laundry, blogging and designing a few logos/flyers for the salon and I finally have the energy to do all this because I made a much needed stop at Starbucks for my fav, Cinnamon Dulce frap with an extra shot of expresso to get me going this morning.
