Final Looks Photos

The deadline has been approaching this month for the Top Photo Stylist Contest with Paul Mitchell. If you have been with me the past few months, you have seen some photo's from the photo shoots with my models and silly me, I havent even showed you which 3 final photo's I have chosen. I may have posted them or not, I cant remember, but out of like 200 pictures, I chose these 3 to be my entries!

The categories are: AVANT GARDE, EDITORIAL & RUNWAY

AVANT GARDE

Galaxy

EDITORIAL

Peacock

RUNWAY

Mermaid

I am getting everything finished with paperwork, product info sheets and all the little details and sending it in. I am so glad that I did this contest because doing this was a turning point for me in terms of what direction I want to go into. I realized how much fun I have while doing makeup and styling hair. It feels good to help bring out a person's natural beauty.

I feel like this is just one step closer to my dreams, and it has me brainstorming where I want to go and take my career and thinking about opening my own styling/makeup salon where not only do I do hair, but I can also do makeup and have photoshoots.

off to finish organizing then off to bed, sweet dreams from Sweet Surrender!

BRA-HA-HA

Today, at Rudy & Kelly Paul Mitchell, our school welcomed a new CORE class to our family. There were a lot of people this class, where only 12 to 15 students were in the last core class. Every time a new Core class starts, we have Pancake Day, where we get treated to pancakes, bacon and good ol' O.J.

With October approaching with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we got together today this morning to decorate bra's to auction off next month.

Carole and I using decorations as antlers or antennas lol

Jackie hard at work on her teams bra design

Needles and thread were brought out to help create masterpieces of Bra's

Creativity shined in forms of feathers, sequins and glitter!

Our school is going to participating in the Race for a Cure event in Virginia Beach on October 15th at the oceanfront for the Susan B. Komen Foundation. We are all going to go down there and show our support for those affected by breast cancer.

For more information: see Susan B. Komen website

I am thinking about designing a tshirt for the students to wear (or at least my core class to wear) to help support this walk/run event we are going to. We have the option to wear our black and white tshirts of RKA/ Paul Mitchell but I wanna make something different to celebrate this occasion. I am not gonna do anything too extravagent, but I think something in pink with black or white with pink and a simple design will be nice to wear with a motivational quote.

I mentioned that I will be doing a giveaway soon in a recent post, so for those curious ones, I am going to launch a giveaway this sunday, (possibly saturday night if I can get the time)

I am so excited to be hosting this giveaway, so for those of you who are crafty, love designing, or putting together scrapbooks, or photo albums, you are gonna LOVE this giveaway! So keep your eyes open this weekend!

As always, thanks for stopping by! Please subscribe or follow for more updates at Sweet Surrender Art!

Creative Resumes

If you cant tell already, I like to be creative. So, when it comes to doing something as BORING as a resume, I cant just do something PLAIN JANE. How else am I gonna stand out as a cosmetologist and artist? I need to create something unique, different, inspiring. I jumped on google and searched creative resume examples, (click on the link and you can find these and more!)

Here are a few that caught my eye:

I really love the first and second one. They both are just exciting to me, and inspires me to do something really creative to my resume. Which ones do you like? And how would you do your resume? Please comment, I would love to know!

Never Forget

September 6, 2001 I had enlisted in the US ARMY. I pledged my life, my duty and honor to serve  my country in peace time and at war, not knowing what was in store for my future. I said goodbye to my family and got on a bus and headed to Fort Jackson, South Carolina to begin my basic training and my journey in the Army.  I had just turned 18 and this was the first time I had actually left home and was doing something by myself.

The morning of Sept 11, I was waiting to be placed into a unit to start basic training, and had to get everything else taken care of before starting such as taking a pt test, getting my id card and my uniforms. I remember having to wake up 4am and being in formation and a plane had flown over us in the field that we were warming up in. I dont wanna say it was a premonition, but I had a strange feeling in my gut when I saw a plane pass over us (even though I had no idea what would happen later that morning plus I was in South Carolina.

Later that morning, I was sitting down waiting for my picture to be taken when I looked at the tv and saw the twin towers with smoke and at first, I thought that it was a movie playing. It wasnt until the staff around me began to talk about it and it seemed like time had stood still. Everything else was cancelled for the day and the base was put on lockdown.  Some time in the evening, everyone gathered at the chapel where we all prayed for those lives lost. We all knew that we were going to war and that everything changed from that moment on.

I started basic training the day after 9-11, so those in my unit knew that our training was just the beginning and that someday soon we would be going to war. Not too far after I was sent to Afghanistan in 2003, then Iraq in 2004.

Looking back, it just amazes me how a single moment can not only change your life, but change the lives of everyone in your world.

My prayers and thoughts go out to those who remember that day, who were affected by it, who lost someone dear to their heart. This post is dedicated to you. May you stand tall in the face of darkness and your love shine light to the world.

Calling all Bloggies

If you are a regular reader, you know how I kept complaining that I lost my flip camera, well, either I was too scatter-brained to find it, or it was stolen from me. Well, I have been out of commission on my videos for quite some time. UNTIL NOW, that is.....enter evil laugh MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

My Dad got me the Sony Bloggie for my birthday last week and I was so excited to open it up. This thing is cool. There are a few different versions of the Bloggie, but I got the Sony Bloggie Duo in white:

I wanted a camera that was of course HD, and had a dual screen (meaning a screen in the front and the back) I can take videos and then also see myself when I am filming or taking a picture. It is also a camera!

I can charge it through a usb port in the computer, there is also a HDMI port so I can hook it up to my TV if I wanna watch my videos or view pictures.

I can attach my mini tripod to it as well, but I think the best feature is that I can take pictures while I am filming and it does not interfere with the video at all! There is also a light on it so you can film in dark light as well (but it is REALLY BRIGHT!) There is no flash for when you take pictures (bummer!) but honestly taking pictures in dark light with the flash is not good of quality as pics taken in daylight. Same goes with filming with the light on in dark places (ie, clubs or restaurants).

The quality during the day is awesome! In fact this picture was taken off the bloggie: enter FISH FACE

I have only had it for about a week, but I have been LOVING it so far. It also comes with software, but I have yet to use it to edit anything. I have a few videos getting ready to edit and load onto my youtube again, just internet connection has not been allowing me to load!!! Oh sometimes technology doesnt work the way you want it too.

So here is my review on this product: It is awesome! But if you want the specs on it to see for yourself, check the link Here for SONY BLOGGIE INFO.

As always, thanks for stopping by! I am off to help the kids make helicopters out of playdoh to destroy barbie shoplifters with Bella and Matti! LOL

Fall into these Boots!

This style of boot is starting to POP up into stores, and becoming a fast trend on the streets, well, at least here in my small corner of the woods in Virginia Beach. So far I have seen them in only black, brown and gray, you know the pretty nuetral, earth tone colors. I was going though my favorite designer, Betsey Johnson and stumbled across these babies!

These are just too cute to pass up! Just my style too. I think my favorite ones are the black and pink ones, they go more with my wardrobe. Here is the link to Betsey Johnson LLOLA Boots

I thought I would share this with my fellow fashionista's out there while I am trying to wake up and waiting for this coffee to kick in.

Dont forget to subscribe for more updates!

I plan on doing a giveaway very soon so keep your eyes peeled!

I have been forgeting to do my quotes of the day, so let me get back on track with that:

The Beauty Parlor

One of my fellow classmates, Dennis asked me to be a hair model for an interview at his dream salon to work at this past week for a technical interview. For hair stylists, when we are trying to get a job in a salon, we have to of course prove our savvy skills, so I jumped at the chance to help my friend out and be his model. I needed a hair cut and a new color too, so PERFECT TIMING!

His dream salon to work at is called the Beauty Palor owned and operated by Quincy Brown, here is his Facebook Link.  From the moment I walked into the salon, I felt at peace and right at home. I am very into Interior Design and fashion, and am a very visual person too.

We were set up in the other room towards the back and got to work (well, Dennis got to work on my hair!) He recolored my red using INKWORKS since it was fading and then did a very beautiful assymetrical cut with layers.

I am in LOVE with this SILVER SOFA!

Dennis and I waiting for my hair to process
He did such an amazing job on my hair and can really work that blow dryer! Here is the finished result that I LOVE!!!!

I am proud to say that Dennis got the job working at this amazing salon. Please check out their facebook page! They are located in downtown Norfolk in the "Art District" not too far from the Norfolk Scope and for those tattoo enthusiasts (like myself) Fusion Ink is a stone's throw away from The Beauty Parlor!

Stop by the salon, it is a cute, very chic, relaxing place to get your hair done! I know I will be going there for my haircut! I believe they offer massages as well. Check their facebook for a full list of services!

As always, my Sweet Surrender readers, thank you for stopping by and stay tuned for more updates from me!
