My First GIVEAWAY! MY Memories Suite

I am soooo very excited to host my first giveaway. I have been dropping hints all week that I am doing a giveaway, so finally here it goes!

My Memories Free Software Giveaway!

A company called My Memories contacted me to do a giveaway with their Award winning digital scrapbooking software to one of my lucky readers! I have been wanting to do a giveaway for a few weeks now, so this opportunity came at the perfect time.

I was able to check out this amazing  My Memories Suite and I was surprised that it was super easy to use. I downloaded it and just played around seeing different things I can create. If you are a usual reader you know that I do all sorts of artsy-fartsy stuff, so I create a few scrapbook pages to test it out.  Check it out:

I did those in a minute super fast!  you pick a background paper which there are tons to choose from and if you are more of a scrapbooker there are different types of kits to choose from..at the same price or even cheaper than paying for a pack at a scrapbooking store or Micheals. They have romantic themes, sports, holidays and almost anything you can think of. If you like to create your own, you can do that too!

The possibilities are endless and it is soooooooooo easy to share. I dont ever have time to go to the store and buy all the cool paper designs, the stickers, the embellishments, the glitter...I WISH I had the time to do it, but I am so busy as are the rest of my readers I am sure! check out my video below!

What I like best about it is that I can be creative and put together something really cute and fast and it is so easy to share, I can load it to my blog, can email it to my family that are all over the place. And theres more than just scrapbooking, you can make greeting cards, calenders or just jazz up a photo. Its like having a easier version of photoshop or something like that to edit photos!

As a special for all of my readers, you have your very own Share the Memories code that provides a $10 discount off the purchase of the My Memories Suite Scrapbooksoftware and a $10 coupon for the MyMemories.com store - $20 value!) Just use this code when you check out! STMMMS94666.

3rd week of September

It is going on 2:15 am and I am really sleepy but not ready to go to bed just yet. This week, no month I should say is going by so fast. School has been really busy, new people coming in, others graduating and leaving.  I have ended up decorating alot of "yearbook" posters for everyone to sign. :) Alot if birthdays have been this month too, so lots of parties, and BBQ's and get-togethers and lets not even forget the weird earthquake and hurricane that rolled up on us. man....but I really cant complain.

I have had a guest or two every day this week in my chair by request most of them, which is awesome! It keeps me busy during the day and I would much rather have a guest than to work on my "babydoll head"

Here are just a few pics from the past week or two. I have more pictures of course but for now thats all I can do because I am ready to crash! Tomorrow will be busy day again! Going to take the kids to a birthday party, (picking out a birthday gift for my son too, he is turning 6!), going out to a comedy club later that night, and finding time to do a video, edit and post for my giveaway!

At A friends Birthday Party/BBQ

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

It (destiny) is what you have always wanted to accomplish. Everyone, when they are young, knows what their destiny is. At that point in their lives, everything is clear and everything is possible. They are not afraid to dream, and to yearn for everything they would like to see happen to them in their lives. But, as time passes, a mysterious force begins to convince them that it will be impossible for them to realize their destiny.

almost friday

Today was, well, I cant say completely exhausted, but it was a very productive day. Went to school, worked on getting as much work as possible done on my worksheet (a list of things to do hair related on a guest or dollhead, such as cutting, blowdrying, color, perm, etc).

This past week, I have had a client in my chair everyday which is pretty cool. Its nice to know that networking really does work and that it is not an urban myth. LOL. A girl that works with my husband also shaved half her head so when we saw each other, we just clicked-because not too many people in this area sport that look and I gave her my card months ago. She came in to trim up her shaved part and to add steps (or lines shaved), also to even out the section that is shaved.  I also cut her bangs so it could be a lil more manageable for her. I really enjoyed it.

My half shaved head-but my guest had her other side shaved and she has long blonde curly hair!

Everyone at the school thought she had got the shaved head part because of me, and I had to explain that she had already done it before me and her even knew each other. I thought it was awesome she came to me when her whole family goes to another salon. :)

It just goes to show, making friends and networking and just being yourself can help your business or clientele grow.

I also gave a haircut at my house as well which was fun to do because my guest has extra curly hair and she has had issues in the past with hair stylists not knowing how to cut that kind of hair texture. With extra curly hair, it is best to cut the hair dry to damp because you dont want to stretch the hair out too much by combing out the curl. :)

random pic from a BBQ this past sunday. I just love the way the sun is setting- just wanted to share that with you!

I didnt have time to take any pictures. :( I need a smart phone or something. lol) I never have my camera ready when I need it!

I got all the signatures I needed for my release forms for the photo contest, so now just gotta print the images and burn them onto a disk and FEDEX that baby out to California!

Well, It is nearly 1230am, and I need to go to bed, I have a test to take in the morning and dont wanna be like a zombie ....so off to nighty night

Thanks for stooping by...I mean stopping by....see I am starting to fall asleep!

If you have been with me the past few months, you have seen some photo's from the photo shoots with my models and silly me, I havent even showed you which 3 final photo's I have chosen. I may have posted them or not, I cant remember, but out of like 200 pictures, I chose these 3 to be my entries!

The categories are: AVANT GARDE, EDITORIAL & RUNWAY

AVANT GARDE

Galaxy

EDITORIAL

Peacock

RUNWAY

Mermaid

I am getting everything finished with paperwork, product info sheets and all the little details and sending it in. I am so glad that I did this contest because doing this was a turning point for me in terms of what direction I want to go into. I realized how much fun I have while doing makeup and styling hair. It feels good to help bring out a person's natural beauty.

I feel like this is just one step closer to my dreams, and it has me brainstorming where I want to go and take my career and thinking about opening my own styling/makeup salon where not only do I do hair, but I can also do makeup and have photoshoots.

off to finish organizing then off to bed, sweet dreams from Sweet Surrender!

BRA-HA-HA

Today, at Rudy & Kelly Paul Mitchell, our school welcomed a new CORE class to our family. There were a lot of people this class, where only 12 to 15 students were in the last core class. Every time a new Core class starts, we have Pancake Day, where we get treated to pancakes, bacon and good ol' O.J.

With October approaching with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we got together today this morning to decorate bra's to auction off next month.

Carole and I using decorations as antlers or antennas lol

Jackie hard at work on her teams bra design

Needles and thread were brought out to help create masterpieces of Bra's

Creativity shined in forms of feathers, sequins and glitter!

Our school is going to participating in the Race for a Cure event in Virginia Beach on October 15th at the oceanfront for the Susan B. Komen Foundation. We are all going to go down there and show our support for those affected by breast cancer.

For more information: see Susan B. Komen website

I am thinking about designing a tshirt for the students to wear (or at least my core class to wear) to help support this walk/run event we are going to. We have the option to wear our black and white tshirts of RKA/ Paul Mitchell but I wanna make something different to celebrate this occasion. I am not gonna do anything too extravagent, but I think something in pink with black or white with pink and a simple design will be nice to wear with a motivational quote.

I mentioned that I will be doing a giveaway soon in a recent post, so for those curious ones, I am going to launch a giveaway this sunday, (possibly saturday night if I can get the time)

I am so excited to be hosting this giveaway, so for those of you who are crafty, love designing, or putting together scrapbooks, or photo albums, you are gonna LOVE this giveaway! So keep your eyes open this weekend!

As always, thanks for stopping by! Please subscribe or follow for more updates at Sweet Surrender Art!

Creative Resumes

If you cant tell already, I like to be creative. So, when it comes to doing something as BORING as a resume, I cant just do something PLAIN JANE. How else am I gonna stand out as a cosmetologist and artist? I need to create something unique, different, inspiring. I jumped on google and searched creative resume examples, (click on the link and you can find these and more!)

Here are a few that caught my eye:

I really love the first and second one. They both are just exciting to me, and inspires me to do something really creative to my resume. Which ones do you like? And how would you do your resume? Please comment, I would love to know!

Never Forget

September 6, 2001 I had enlisted in the US ARMY. I pledged my life, my duty and honor to serve  my country in peace time and at war, not knowing what was in store for my future. I said goodbye to my family and got on a bus and headed to Fort Jackson, South Carolina to begin my basic training and my journey in the Army.  I had just turned 18 and this was the first time I had actually left home and was doing something by myself.

The morning of Sept 11, I was waiting to be placed into a unit to start basic training, and had to get everything else taken care of before starting such as taking a pt test, getting my id card and my uniforms. I remember having to wake up 4am and being in formation and a plane had flown over us in the field that we were warming up in. I dont wanna say it was a premonition, but I had a strange feeling in my gut when I saw a plane pass over us (even though I had no idea what would happen later that morning plus I was in South Carolina.

Later that morning, I was sitting down waiting for my picture to be taken when I looked at the tv and saw the twin towers with smoke and at first, I thought that it was a movie playing. It wasnt until the staff around me began to talk about it and it seemed like time had stood still. Everything else was cancelled for the day and the base was put on lockdown.  Some time in the evening, everyone gathered at the chapel where we all prayed for those lives lost. We all knew that we were going to war and that everything changed from that moment on.

I started basic training the day after 9-11, so those in my unit knew that our training was just the beginning and that someday soon we would be going to war. Not too far after I was sent to Afghanistan in 2003, then Iraq in 2004.

Looking back, it just amazes me how a single moment can not only change your life, but change the lives of everyone in your world.

My prayers and thoughts go out to those who remember that day, who were affected by it, who lost someone dear to their heart. This post is dedicated to you. May you stand tall in the face of darkness and your love shine light to the world.
