Skulls

My good friend Lah (who is an awesome Nail Artist) stopped by my place a couple days ago to borrow some things and she had a surprise for me. She had stopped by a tattoo shop and asked about any upcoming apprenticeships going on in the shop and she set up an appointment with me with one of the artists.

I stopped by yesterday morning and showed him my portfolio or what I threw together at last second….(ughhhh I know, I know, I need to be more organized) and talked with him a bit. I wasn’t offered an apprenticeship, but he did say that I need to draw everyday. He wants to see a solid year of drawing, which is cool with me because I still need to work. He did give a “homework” assignment.

I took the challenge and have been working on my drawings for the past 2 days. I haven’t been feeling well, so while I have been taking Dayquil and Nightquil nonstop I have been using this down time to really work on my art. Yesterday, I even dragged myself out of bed to the library so I could get some art books for inspiration. I found some good ones too.

My challenge was to draw 3 Skulls. One black and gray realistic skull, one vibrant, bright and colorful Sugar Skull and the last a new school skull drawing.

I finished my skull drawing already and wanted to share my progress with you.

The second drawing, I am gathering reference photos for the Sugar Skull. I am really excited to draw this one. Here are some of my favorite photos I found so far.

Ill show yall my progress as I go because I love sharing my art in hopes it would inspire someone or another artist to get off their butt and create art. I def need a good shoving every now and then to get the fire going.

Another artist and myself are thinking about getting together for an art session soon. So if anyone is in the area and want to collaborate or bounce ideas off each other…let me know by leaving a comment ot send me an email to

Thanks for stopping by and see you again in the next post!

Baby Hipster

This past Sunday, Matthias and I got the rare chance to have mom and son time. We went to Starbucks and ordered our holiday drinks. He gets his white hot chocolate and I get my Pepermint mocha at kids temperature simply because I hate burning my tongue and waiting for my coffee to get cool enough to sip on. I managed to get a pic of us.

He loves his hat! He's had it for about a year now. Its from Target..Harijuku line of course. He snatched my glasses from inside the car and wore them all day. He is soooo stinkin cute. He is alot like me and when I notice lil things that we have in common, it just makes my heart melt.

Later, we went to his football banquet party to celebrate the season and to get his trophy. He was so excited to get his trophy and to also go bowling....oh yea, it was held at a bowling alley on base. Many many kids and their parents. It was actually pretty fun.

Check out my hot neon bowling rental shoes! They match my tights under my ripped jeans! I managed to bowl almost a full game before my hip and wrist started hurting.  Arabella was excited to go bowling too! She bowled more games than us! She bowled 5 games!!!! Lets just say she was fast alseep as soon as we got in the car.

Look how bog his trophy is!!! He was so happy and I couldnt have been more proud of my baby boy. I am glad that he stuck through the whole season and he cant wait for next season!

Now, I need to get off this computer and make breakfast for the fam...even though its lunchtime. Tons of stuff to do. Im making my dining room into my art studio and gotta start christmas shopping. I know, I know, its a lil late, but so much has been happening. well, im off to start the day!

Hairspiration

Everytime I get ready to do something drastic to my hair I search high and low...well, I search through Google and Pinterest for the ultimate hair styles. I found some awesome images. Of course, I want to share with my lovelies!

I cant wait to update my hair. I am gonna go back to shaving my side again and I'm thinking about getting some extensions. Ive never had them before but I wanna try it. I am getting better at doing extensions myself. I want to do crazy, fun looks and specialize in dramatic, colorful looks! I hope you love all these images! Which one is your favorite? Thanks for stopping by!

Family Wedding Freelancing

Back in October, my Aunt Beth got married to the love of her life and she asked me to do her hair and makeup for her BIG DAY. Of course I cannot refuse family!

I finally got the pictures back from her wedding and I wanted to share them with yall! My grandparents were in town and all of us were there with the exception of my mom because she was away on the ship. It was fun to see everyone. Weddings can be hectic, but I love it. The energy is high and the air is filled with excitement.

I love the photo above with my grandmother and I. Were both so goofy and this picture captures it. I wish I had the photographers name who worked with us, she had some really good shots!

I hope you enjoyed this! I hope you have a great weekend and a Happy Holiday! Thanks for stopping by!

My 2nd Year at the Lawrence Brothers Hair Show

I have a treat for you today my lovies! This past sunday, I was invited again this year to body paint for the lovely Hair Stylist Yolanda Billups and Tanika Brown for Hair 2 0 Salon in the Lawrence Brothers Hair Battle.  (To see last years post, click here )

This time I only had to paint one model, as opposed to last year where I painted two ladies. I brought along my friend, Lakesha to help me out. Lakesha is a salon apprentice and has been eager to get her foot in the door. I knew she would love this opportunity and I wanted to open her eyes to the crazy world of hair shows!

The theme this year was hairstyles from around the world ranging from India, Africa, Mexica to Japan. The young woman we were body painting was to be a fire bull for the Mexico part of the show. It was alot of fun to paint her. I didnt do a sketch for her because she was meant to be "fire" and I really wanted to go freestyle on her.

I used some old Xotic Eyes Blaze body art I had from when I used to work with Xotic Eyes that I used on her chest. I used Demonic Face mask for around her eyes. With the help of another MUA on site, she added lashes and gold metallic eyeshadow for the eyelids.

Lakesha picked it up fast and did great! The experience left her wanting more for herself in this vast beauty world. It also reminded me of what I love to do. I realized that I am not living up to my potential being at Coucoon Salon. Although it was a beautiful salon and spa, I feel I couldnt grow there as myself.

Here are some photos I found from backstage! The hair is just amazing and these ladies are really talented!

I wish I couldve filmed it. I am gonna try to find the show on youtube. It was great to watch all the salons compete and really see them pour their hearts into their work. Its really inspiring to me. It pushes me harder in pursuing what makes me happy.

We left early before the judging but we found out that Salon Hair 2 0 won!!!! Weve also been invited to go down to Atlanta to work with them on the next hair show! Thats what I'm talking about!

Well, I hope you enjoyed this post as much as I have written it for you. Stay tuned for more! Thanks for stopping by and reading!

People are like stained - glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.
