Korean Gifts

My Mom came home on leave from Korea, and I totally was gonna blog about this, and then forgot, just like the scattered-brained artist that I am. Her and my grandmother went on a trip to the Philipines before coming back home, (and yes, I am part Filipina) and she came  home bearing gifts.

Left to Right: tote from the PI, ginseng tea from Korea, Caviar Set, Chocolates from Korea

The Face Shop: Caviar and Black Pearl

Ginseng Tea which is yummy with a pinch of sugar

Hazelnut Chocolates

Tote from the Philipines
I like the tea, my husband drank it and had so much energy that he cleaned the whole house! I havent really tried the chocolate, but I have tried the Face Shop Caviar set and its not too bad. My mom said it was expensive and it is supposed to be really good. I have been using it and I cant tell a difference in my skin, but I have been so on-the-go I havent noticed! But wanted to share this with you.

Dr Pepper Contest

I cant remember if I posted about this before, but in case I havent, Dr Pepper and Deviantart is having Another contest to design a mural to be painted onto a building in NY (the last contest was for a mural in California). I wanted to participate in the contest last time, but because I was attending two schools full time, I just didnt have the time to.

photobucket.com

Imagine my surprise when I check my deviantart (which is an online community for artists to share and sell his or her work) messages and I saw another contest! So I thought I would share it with anyone who is interested in the contest as well.

Winners get their mural painted, flown out to see your mural, cash, an Ipad 2, deviantart points, and deviantart merchandise! see here for more info!

Good Luck to fellow artists!

One photoshoot down

This past thursday, I packed all my kits (makeup, hair, and airbrush kits) and made my way to do my first model's hair and makeup for Photoshoot #1.  We set up at her house in her backyard since the humidity decided to play nice and not be all hot and gross....we had about 2 hours to do both hair and makeup. I started out doing an "invisible" roller set...hehehehe which is just taking the hair and basically putting it into a pincurl and clipping it, spraying with hairspray and letting it set. The first run through, the makeup did not show up at all as vibrant as I had wanted it to:

first run through without airbrush makeup base

with airbrush makeup! Such a difference! The color is more vibrant which is what I was looking for!

applying lip liner to my model
We had so much fun doing this look! The photographer is so amazing! She shoots in her Studio Loft! The atmosphere was great, she had music playing and we were a great team! We have two more shoots to do inthe next two weeks and I am excited. The shots so far turned out amazing!

Here is a video of Charisse ( Belladonna Reese Photography) doing a photoshoot/video for a local company called JSNL. Step Your Game Up!

You can check out her Facebook here  for more of her work and if your in the local 757 area and need an amazing photographer, look her up!

So, I hope you enjoyed a lil behind the scenes action for the first photoshoot!

I hope it has inspired you today!

Temptu Makeup

A few weeks ago, I had ordered a mini starter airbrush makeup set from temptu.com.  I ran into a dilemna with my airbrush gear and had to order a new airbrush and a new hose, there were some parts missing and finally after trips to micheals and home depot and the help of my husband, I was able to get what I needed to get the ball rolling.

I ordered this set, just to see how Temptu makeup sprayed on

can be purchased here: http://laurelcosmetics.com/Products/SB-Adjusters-Singles__SBAD.aspx
I only tried one color last night, which was the yellow pigment. I sprayed it on my arm and cheek to test how it felt on my skin and I even tested it on my husbands chest and sprayed a fake six-pack lol I was laughing so hard. I wish I couldve gotten a pic of it, ( I am getting really bad at that).

So, here is my review on the Temptu: It does not rub off at all when it is applied to the skin. No sticky residue, it does have a slight odor to it, but nothing youre gonna gag on and wanna visit the toilet to see your lunch again LOL! It does come off easily, I just ran water over it and it was gone! I do not know how well it blends together with other colors, but I will be testing that tomorrow.

Tomorrow evening, I will be on set with a photogrpaher to shoot my galaxy "Runway" theme! I am so excited to finally get this going! I may have an assistant there to help film a before and during shot, or activity so I can "bring" yall with me!

Peacocks, Mermaids and Stars..OH MY!

I was busy yesterday playing with makeup all day! I had already did a run through with my first model a few weeks ago, and I scheduled my other two models to come in and practice the looks we are shooting for the Photo Stylist contest, (you can read more about the contest here)

Here are my three themes I decided to come up with that I am OBSSESSED WITH!

First, I have my Galaxy Theme, with blues, purples and pinks and white stars:

Next, I have my Art Nouveau Peacock theme, inspired by the beautiful peacock feathers:

And Last, but certainly not least, Mermaids! I love the mythology of a mermaid and I must have so many mermaid photos and gifts and I even have a mermaid tattoo!

I cannot wait for the actual photo shoots which will be happening this month in the next few weeks! yay! I found an awesome photographer which I will find out her website and post it for anyone who is interested. I will def post more updates as I complete this project for the contest! Just thought I would share what I have been working on as far as my makeup craft! I hope you enjoyed and have been inspired!

Gothic Bride Makeup and More

July has kicked off to a great start! I have really focused on my craft of hair and makeup. I got the chance to model for a friend of mine I attend Paul Mitchell with, named Rock Mims, for her makeup portfolio. The name of this theme was Emo Bride/Gothic inspired look. I had so much fun, check out some of the photos below:

Emo Bride Gothic Inspired

This is my Favorite one!

I loved being apart of this! A few of my friends were her model as well, including Taylor whom I cut her fabulous Hot Summer haircut...see my before and after pics here.

Here are a few photos of her makeup...and Rock styled out that hair..it is sooooo fierce!

Her look was "India" Inspired

And since I am talking about makeup, I had my own makeup sessions with two of my models today in preparation for my photoshoots coming up in the next few weeks! I am editing them now, so I will load them in the next post!

Hope this inspires all you makeup artists to start working on your portfolio or add to yours!

Dual Action baby!

What is Dual Action do you ask???? Well, let me explain lol. If you followed my blog last year, I had bought a cheap airbrush kit from a guy on craigslist for $35 that he had bought from Home Depot. I had used it for a bit, but I was really limited in what I could do because it is a single action airbrush: meaning you press down on the lever and it just blows out air and you have to manually adjust how much comes out (little spray or big spray). I also lost some of the pieces that went to that airbrush gun so made it really hard to use.

Here is a pic so you can see what I am talkin about:
If that is something you think you can handle: you can buy it here for only $10.

So, instead I bought a dual action airbrush, which when you press the lever, you control the air and the flow of the air, making it easier to manage and easier to paint details or large areas and change it without having to stop and readjust.

I found this one for only $20

It just shipped today, so I should get it in a few days. If youre an airbrush artist, or looking to get started, try this set at this Link here. This does not include the compressor!

I am excited to get this airbrush. It is also a gravity feed, which means instead of a jar being screwed into the bottom, theres a lil "bowl" that just lets the paint go into the air flow (if you have ever had your nails airbrushes, it looks like that).

I use an airbrush for many things to include painting large areas, detailing smaller items, labeling my stuff with a stencil, and now that I am training to be a cosmetologist, I am going to be using it for airbrush tanning and airbrush makeup and body painting! Check out some images of art used with an airbrush!
