My Hubby is a Clown

It is July already! My, My where has half the year gone? The humidity and rain has been plaguing the Hampton Roads area for the past few weeks, which has kept me inside drawing, geeking out on research, youtube, blogs and art supplies.

The hubby and I got to go out to dinner for a rare chance and we went to our favorite place, Rick’s Café. Jermie ordered a HUGE Burger and I got some breakfast, because I LOVE having breakfast for dinner!

After dinner, it was time to take hubby to work, he is stilt walking all week at the oceanfront and he loves for me to paint his face! He loves clowns, so that’s what I painted per request!

I have so much fun when I paint his face. The tourists definitely love it too!

4th of July is coming up and I am planning on doing a few different looks inspired by the following designs!

Face and Body Art Convention

Here is a recent custom tattoo drawing I designed for a friend of mine and her husband. This is a tribute tattoo to a dear friend of theirs and they wanted something that would remind them of him, for he was a simple man that loved to hunt and fish and it was an honor to design this for them.

I am trying to get all caught up on other commissioned projects before I start working in a salon.

I had to order some new facepaint supplies because I finally used up my old Ben Nye Paint, and could justify getting some new paint! I got an essential palette just to get me through until I can buy the colors individually.

I ordered from Silly Farm, which is one of the top sites to order from and their prices are pretty decent. They have tons of stuff, so if you’re a facepainter, I would definitely recommend checking out this site.

This palette is $30 and standard shipping was only $7. It is not as big as the individual containers, but it states online that you can get at least 100 applications out of them. So, I will give it a try when I get it and do a review if you guys would like. I’m planning on painting some models for the opening of the salon next month and I am excited to show yall. I need to build my kit up again. I have checked out some other face painter kits and they are impressive!

I was checking out Silly Farm, and on the side bar, there was an ad for the Face and Body Art International Convention next year! I seriously want to save up to go to this bad boy! Who wants to take a road trip?

It is not until next year, so I better start saving! hahaha Well, I am off to go work on more projects! See you again soon!

Girly Girl Weekend

As I mentioned in my last post, I decided to settle down in a new salon opening up next month, called Layla’s Glam Squad. I’m super excited because the owners are super sweet and I feel that its going to be a great venture for everyone! I swung by on friday to paint a giant Chanel Symbol on the wall to add to the girly décor!

I used my ol’ school projector we found at a thrift shop to project the symbol onto the wall, traced the outline then after adding about 3 coats of paint, I was done!

The salon is still coming together! I love how it is coming along!

After this, I took a vacay away from my computer this weekend, and spent some much needed girl time with my Aunt Beth in between working some freelance gigs.  It feels good to have some time out away from home and relax.

We went to the Fresh Market where we picked up fresh asparagus. (You can see my Aunt in the middle hahaha) then, We went to lunch at Red Robin with my Aunt Dale and Grandma, then caught a movie. We saw “The Heat” that was hilarious, and then had dinner….yummy Salmon, asparagus and rice. We had a pretty nice day considering its been muggy and humid and rainy! I managed to take a few panoramic shots of when my hubby was working. The sky just looks amazing!!! WE had the sun setting on one side and a thunderstorm coming towards us.

And this will sound totally geeky, but while I was at Wholefoods, I glanced over and saw these cookies! I have only known these cookies to be in Colorado so I was so happy that I found them. When I attended the Art Institute of Colorado in Denver, there was a small supply student shop that would have art supplies, t-shirts, school supplies and snacks. I would always get these cookies and a coffee. They are vegan too and so delicious! You have to try them, especially with some Bluebell icecream!

That pretty much sums up my weekend, I hope you guys had a good one too! Tomorrow is Monday and there’s tons to get done! So get some rest and see you then!

This week has been really hot out! and humid! So, I have been staying indoors except for the occasional walk with the pup! I have been working on various projects and trying to get them all done. I have been struggling on staying focused as usual but I am pushing through!

Jermie has been working his but off lately, framing houses during the day then working down at the oceanfront! Check out this cutie! hahaha I did his clown face makeup! He is so perfect for this job, because he loves clowns and he is such a joker!

 

I am happy to announce that I have found a salon to call home! Now that I finally got my license, I have been looking for a salon to fit me and my needs as well as my clients! It is a new salon that is opening up next month called Layla’s Glam Squad! It is here in the local Virginia Beach area, it is a multi cultural shop that will specialize in hair, color, extensions, weaves, nails, and we will also have a tanning bed in there as well. I cannot wait to show you pictures, because it is sooo cute and shabby chic! More will come on this! But I wanted to share in case any of my clients are reading!

Monsters U and Us

The weekend is just about over and I am ready for Monday, which is weird, but I have a TON of work to do this week!

Even though I mainly work at home right now and freelance, I do try to take a normal weekend off especially while the kids are out of school for summer. Plus, I am taking advantage of the fact that I can take the weekends off before I start working in a salon again.

I finally made another youtube video of me shaving my head, or well, half my head again. If you have followed me for a while, you know that I rocked the shaved side for a good 2 years. It feels good to have it back and now that my hair has taken a nice break, its time to get back into my hair and makeup. It took a back seat for a while, I must admit, while I focused on my artwork and tattoo drawings and body painting.

Hubby and I surprised the kiddos to a movie today! We went and saw Monsters University! We loved it! So cute and just as good as the first one! Of course, all pixar movies are good, no matter if it’s the second or third movie! I actually got all dolled up with my makeup, which is something I haven’t done lately-at least with colors. I have been stickin to the Naked 2 palette, cat eye liner and nude lipstick. I got a lil more festive.

 

 

I plan on  coloring my hair tomorrow or tuesday, but knowing me and how impatient I get, it will be tomorrow. So stay tuned for that and the craziness that will come with the next post!

Hair’spiration

As much as I like to say I am taking a break form doing my hair all crazy, some time has passed, and I am getting that itch again. I am on the search of a salon that will fit my style (at least until I have my own studio) and if you have been with me since the last time I looked for a salon, I talked about the importance of being yourself and not changing who you are for anyone. I didn’t take my own advice last year, I allowed my judgment to be blinded by an upscale salon and putting my own image and style on the back burner, and what happened? Lets just say in the end, it didn’t work out. No amount of money and drama will be worth sacrificing who you are and what you stand for.

With that being said, I am keeping that in mind when I am looking for a salon to call home. My interview yesterday went well, and I am definetely considering working there. (more details if I decide to go there) I still have a few interviews to go.

I have decided to being back the shaved side, as I miss it so much and realize it has become my statement style. I have already had my hair colored various colors such as purple, red, turquoise, blue, green, yellow, orange, so I am trying to decided what to do next. Here is some of my inspiration I have been obsessing over.

 

As you can probably tell, I am leaning towards teal and pink, simply because I have not done that combination yet. I have done purple and teal, but I have not done a pink at all- the red I used to have just fades to pink. hahaha

And speaking of things I am obsessed about lately, here are some fashion trends I am lusting over right now!
